Old Town will be the place to celebrate Mother’s Day with a community get-together featuring live music, pet adoptions, food and more on Sunday, May 11, from 1 to 5 p.m. Free performances by the Watermelon Mountain Jug Band, Ballet Folklorico Del Norte, and Divino will take place in the Gazebo.
“Thereโs no shortage of ways to make a mom feel special, and you canโt go wrong with some fresh air and family time,” said Albuquerque Mayor Tim Keller. “Whether itโs in Old Town, a picnic in a park, or a stroll through the Zoo, we have you covered.โ
The City of Albuquerque’s Animal Welfare Department will be onsite with adoptable pets, and adoption fees will be waived as a Mother’s Day treat. Children can enjoy free face painting and a 25-foot climbing wall. The Gazebo area will also host Old Town merchants showcasing their specialties, along with several restaurants serving signature dishes. Local food trucks will offer quick bites like roasted corn and chilaquiles.
Streets in and around Old Town Plaza will be closed to traffic on Mother’s Day. Parking is available at the Albuquerque Museum lot and surrounding areas. The event is rain or shine, and well-behaved pets on leashes are welcome.
