By Albuquerque Solid Waste Management Department

The City of Albuquerque’s Solid Waste Management Department will begin the Spring Green Waste Collection Event starting Monday, April 29. Residents will be able to dispose of their leaves, grass, brush, and trimmings at their curbside for no additional charge.

Residents can have their green waste picked up at the curb on their normal collection day starting Monday and running through Friday, May 10th. Pickups will be during normal collection hours so residents are asked to have their green waste placed at the curb by 7 a.m.

Residents are asked to follow some guidelines to ensure efficient collection:

From our sponsors
  • All green waste must be placed in trash bags
    • The only exception will be for branches
    • Branches must be cut into 4 ft. lengths, bundled, and secured tightly
  • There is no weight limit but each bag must weigh no more than 40 lbs.
  • All green waste must be placed at least 5 ft. away from waste and recycling bins
  • Dirt, construction debris and materials, gravel, and tree stumps will not be accepted

The event is part of the city’s ongoing efforts to promote sustainability and environmental responsibility.

“Providing residents with convenient options for proper green waste disposal is vital to ensuring the city remains committed to our environmental sustainability goals,” said Solid Waste Management Department Director Billy Gallegos. “When we provide residents with these opportunities, we enable them to be part of the conversation about the city’s efforts to be more sustainable.”

The collected green waste will be processed into rough chip mulch, which is then utilized to prevent erosion at the Cerro Colorado Landfill, further enhancing environmental conservation efforts.

Residents with questions or those needing to report a missed Green Waste pick-up are encouraged to call 311 or 505-768-2000 for assistance.
