The Albuquerque City Council meets Wednesday, Feb. 18, with a packed agenda that could shape how the city grows and who helps run it.
Councilors are set to take final action on the 2025 biennial update to the Integrated Development Ordinance, the city’s land-use code that governs where and how development happens. The sweeping citywide text amendments mark the most significant item on the agenda. The Land Use, Planning and Zoning Committee reviewed the changes in January.
The council will also review the Community Planning Area Assessment Report for the West Mesa, a fast-growing area on the city’s edge. The report will help guide long-range planning and future development decisions there.
Mayor Tim Keller is asking councilors to confirm two key members of his leadership team. He has appointed Associate Chief Administrative Officer Carla Martinez as chief financial officer and Deputy Chief Administrative Officer Matthew Whelan as chief operations officer. Both already serve in senior roles within the administration.
Councilors will also take a final vote on a proposal by Councilor Nichole Rogers to create an African American Advisory Board. The board would provide a formal channel for community input and policy recommendations.
