The bill, Senate Bill 1, enters New Mexico into the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact. In this compact, a physician licensed in a state like Texas or Colorado can fast-track their relocation to practice in New Mexico. Following a unanimous House vote Tuesday approving the Senate bill, the governor had three days to sign or veto it before it would become law without her signature.

Also present for the signing were House Speaker Javier Martinez (D-Albuquerque), Senate Majority Leader Peter Wirth (D-Santa Fe), and other legislators from the House and Senate. Senator Mimi Stewart (D-Albuquerque) said that “[i]t’s really that bipartisan work that has got us here, and I want to thank the party across the aisle for that help.”
