Hundreds gathered Monday, March 2, on what would have been his birthday at the Rio Rancho Event Center to honor Sgt. Michael Barrett Schlattman, a Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) deputy, died in the line of duty on Feb. 23 at age 52. Schlattman joined BCSO in 2012 and was promoted to sergeant in July 2024, serving during his career as a detective in special investigations and auto theft and as a task force officer with the U.S. Marshals Service and the Drug Enforcement Administration.
He is survived by his father, James Lee Schlattman, and his wife, Mary Ann, of San Antonio, Texas; his sister, Stacia Ann Fazzaro, and brother-in-law Peter John Fazzaro, of Jackson, N.J.; his fiancée, Tara Flynn-Tedder, of Albuquerque; her children, Corbin and Maddie, both of Texas; and his dog, Sadie. He was preceded in death by his mother, LeAnn Schlattman.
