The Bernalillo County Commission elected the new chair and vice chair of the commission in its first meeting of the 2026 calendar year, where Adriann Barboa took over as the commission chair with Frank Baca as her vice chair.
The commission voted 5-0 for Barboa to take over the gavel from outgoing chair Eric Olivas. She nominated Frank Baca to serve as her vice chair, which received unanimous approval. Barboa presented Olivas with a plaque for his service in 2025.
“Sometimes I could see farther there on the horizon, thanks to the way he brings in information and really thinks about policy in our community,” Barboa said.
Olivas said that he is grateful to have served as the chairman for 2025.
“It’s really just been the honor of my lifetime to be the chairman of my hometown county commission,” Olivas said. “An incredible honor to serve alongside all of my distinguished colleagues and represent our county, my hometown. Really, very few honors that I imagine having in my life are equal to this.
Barboa said she is committed to the commission’s future work, which involves a new regulation for AI data centers.
“Thank you for trusting me,” Barboa said. “I hope to serve you well. I will serve you well.”
