The city of Albuquerque dedicated the pavilion overlooking Tingley Field playground to former City Councilor Adele Hundley on Friday, honoring her decades of public service and advocacy for the historic Barelas neighborhood.
The dedication ceremony was part of the city’s “Stories of Us” initiative, which recognizes individuals whose contributions deserve permanent recognition in public spaces, according to a city press release.
“It’s never been about me, it’s about helping people,” Hundley said at the ceremony. “When you look at all the work we do as politicians, you don’t do it alone—you do it because you have a lot of good people supporting you.”
Hundley, a Barelas native, served as a New Mexico state representative from 1979 to 1982, where she authored legislation creating the New Mexico Mortgage Finance Authority. The agency continues to provide affordable housing financing statewide, according to the city.
She also served two terms on the Albuquerque City Council from 1983 to 1987 and from 1997 to 2001. During her tenure, she championed preservation and redevelopment efforts for the Albuquerque Rail Yards.
“Adele is the kind of leader whose work uplifts the community in lasting ways,” Mayor Tim Keller said. “Her dedication has without question made Albuquerque stronger.”
The “ABQ Stories of Us” initiative invites community members to nominate individuals for recognition in public gathering spaces. Residents can submit stories and suggest future honorees at cabq.gov/stories-of-us, the city said.
Community members, city officials and Hundley’s family and friends attended the dedication ceremony.
I would rather the mayor do a better job taking care of the parks we have. They are pathetic.
