The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) District Five office recently awarded seven local governments with a 95% match in funding.

According to a press release from NMDOT, the funding, announced Oct. 31, is for local entity projects, investing $9,713116.73 in District Five Transportation Funded Roadway projects.

Two projects in the East Mountains totaling over $1 million are included in the funding.

According to NMDOT, $500,000 will go to improvements on Loring Avenue in Estancia while Torrance County will get $604,897.74 for improvements and construction on Appaloosa Road.

“The Transportation Project Fund provides a great opportunity for our local counties, cities and tribal governments to receive funding for various transportation related projects,” said Rhonda Lopez, NMDOT District 5 engineer. “Without this resource, many of these municipalities would not be able to fund these vital infrastructure projects that are important to each of their communities.”
