A Whittier, California man was arrested in Estancia and charged with domestic violence and larceny.

According to a criminal complaint, 43-year-old Mario Cabral is accused of choking his daughter’s mother and hitting her in the face with a pistol. Torrance County Sheriff’s deputies say Cabral traveled from California to a residence in Estancia to visit his infant daughter. On June 29, he allegedly got into an argument with his daughter’s mother, choked her, took a 9mm pistol from her purse and struck her in the face with the pistol. Police say Cabral left with the pistol after the incident and was arrested by TCSO on a felony warrant July 2.

Cabral was booked at the CoreCivic Detention Facility and charged with aggravated battery on a household member and larceny. He was released on July 3. It was not clear who Cabral’s attorney was as of press time.
