An East Mountain High School junior was killed last week in a rollover accident in Edgewood.

Nolan Boyd, 16, was a passenger in a 2016 Jeep Patriot that rolled over near the intersection ofย  Williams Ranch Road and Thompson Road, not far from the I-40 overpass on Sept. 16.

Boyd was not wearing a seatbelt, according to Edgewood Police, who did not release the name of the driver.

โ€œWe ask all, especially juveniles, to obey the laws of the road, on and off, as it’s one of the leading causes of deaths among teens,โ€ according to an Edgewood Police statement.

Students set up a memorial for Boyd in a hallway, decorated with a simple bouquet of carnations and roses, with messages expressing their sorrow.

โ€œNolan, you were the kindest soul and an amazing friend,โ€ one of the missives read. “I am so sad to see you leave but know that youโ€™re in a better place now.โ€

Boydโ€™s advocacy and English teacher Carmen Healy remembered him as a role model for his family.

โ€œNolan was such a kind and goofy kid. I always appreciated his smile and the way he greeted me every day,โ€ Healy said. โ€œHe obviously enjoyed being a big brother and was proud every time he talked about his younger siblings.โ€

In a gofundme post to raise money to pay for his funeral expenses, Boyd was described โ€œas an inspiration to his friends, a treasure to his family and the one kid that was described as perfect by his peers.โ€

Services are set for tonight from 4-6 p.m. at the Harris-Hanlon Mortuary in Moriarty, followed by a celebration of life at the scene of the accident, where another memorial was built.
